Appendix E: User Manual
A+ physical description
Default keymap
The default keymap for the A+ Trackball is available as a PDF that you can print out for easy reference.
Wrist rest
If you have a wrist rest for the A+, you can hook it into the case, and the two should stay connected during regular use. If you need the connection to be more secure, however, we've included two screws that you can use to screw the two pieces together. The screws get inserted when the A+ is upside-down.
Customizing buttons
All buttons can be customized using a web application called "VIA". This includes all of the buttons on other layers.
For now, you'll have to configure VIA to function with the A+ Trackball. It takes about thirty seconds. To do so, see this information.
There are lots of tutorials about how to use VIA. Here is an example.
Example: Changing B4's Functionality
Let's say you want to change B4 from "drag scroll" to being the "mute" button. Here's how to do that:
- Go to the CONFIGURE tab in VIA.
- On the interface, click on B4 (it should say DragScroll on it). It should start pulsating.
- On the bottom half of the screen, click the MEDIA tab (it should be below BASIC).
- Click on Mute. You should see the text on B4 change from DragScroll to Mute.
And you're done! Now, when you click the B4 button the A+, it should mute or unmute your audio.
Factory-resetting the A+
If the A+ somehow gets into a state where it can no longer work, the solution is easy.
Using the default firmware, follow the instructions in the firmware programming guide to load it onto the A+. After that, the A+ should be reset back to its factory settings.
